President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, along with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, visited India and was warmly received by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The visit included a grand banquet hosted in their honor, highlighting the strong bond between the two nations.

During the event, President Murmu emphasized the importance of the Maldives in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and SAGAR Vision. She described the Maldives as a close friend and key partner in the Indian Ocean Region. A vision document was adopted to enhance economic and maritime security partnerships.

Both leaders agreed to advance their bilateral partnership, focusing on areas like digital payments and new technologies. India is one of the top trading partners of the Maldives, and there is potential for further collaboration.

The banquet was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and other leaders and diplomats from both countries.

Ceremonial Reception and Tribute

President Muizzu’s visit began with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was welcomed by President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Maldivian President and First Lady also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, signing the visitors’ book there.
