Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Urgent Flood Relief from Amit Shah

On October 7, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to request immediate financial assistance for flood damage in the state. The Chief Minister asked for Rs11,713.49 crore to restore infrastructure damaged by floods between August 31 and September 8, which claimed 37 lives and killed over 1 lakh animals. Crops across 4.15 lakh acres were destroyed, and roads, culverts, tanks, ponds, and canals were severely damaged.

Reddy reminded Shah of a previous request for Rs5,438 crore and mentioned a central team’s report estimating the damage at Rs11,713 crore. He emphasized the need for additional funds beyond the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) allocations, which had already provided Rs416.80 crore.

During the meeting, Reddy also requested the reinstatement of three districts under the Left-Wing Extremism category and the establishment of CRPF camps for security. He sought Rs18.31 crore for Special Police Officers’ payments and additional funds for police training and station strengthening.

Reddy addressed unresolved issues from the state’s bifurcation, including disputes over government buildings and corporations, and requested 29 more IPS officers for Telangana. The meeting was attended by Telangana officials, including Nalgonda MP Raghavireddy, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, and DGP Jitender.
