Prime Minister Modi and Maldivian President Muizzu Strengthen Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives held important talks to build a strong economic and maritime security partnership. They discussed shared challenges in the Indian Ocean and agreed to work together on maritime security. India will help the Maldives with expertise and joint efforts to tackle threats like piracy, illegal fishing, drug trafficking, and terrorism.

India also promised to support the Maldives National Defence Force’s ‘Ekatha’ harbour project and build a new Defence Ministry building in Male. Training for Maldivian security forces will be enhanced under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme.

Both countries are founding members of the Colombo Security Conclave, showing their commitment to a peaceful Indian Ocean. India will also support women entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Maldives to boost the economy.

President Muizzu is on a five-day visit to India and was warmly welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
