US and Israeli Military Leaders Discuss Security Concerns

On October 7, in Tel Aviv, Israel, General Michael Kurilla, the Commander of the US Central Command, met with LTG Herzi Halevi, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and other commanders. The meeting focused on assessing the current security situation, particularly concerning Iran and the northern front. The IDF emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the US Armed Forces to enhance regional stability and military coordination.

Rocket Attacks and Airstrikes Escalate Tensions

Earlier on the same day, rockets from southern Lebanon struck the Israeli port city of Haifa. This was in response to Israel’s intensified airstrikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, targeting key weapons depots and infrastructure. The Israeli army reported that five rockets hit Haifa, injuring at least five people. Sirens were also heard in Tiberias, and alerts were activated in the Upper Galilee area after detecting 15 rockets, some of which were intercepted. Israeli media reported at least 10 injuries from the Haifa attack.

The Israeli airstrikes in Beirut caused significant destruction, targeting areas near Lebanon’s international airport and a former Hezbollah broadcaster building. The Lebanese Health Ministry has not yet provided casualty figures from these strikes.
