Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Mohamed Muizzu of Maldives met in New Delhi to discuss cooperation between their countries. They focused on enhancing security in the Indian Ocean Region by training the Maldivian Defence Forces.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of security cooperation and mentioned the ongoing work on the Ekatha Harbour project. He also highlighted the shared challenge of climate change and India’s willingness to share its experiences in solar and energy efficiency with Maldives.

Financial Agreements

During their talks, India agreed to a USD 100 million Treasury bills roll over for Maldives. Additionally, a USD 400 million and Rs 3,000 crore currency swap agreement was signed. Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of the development partnership between India and Maldives, prioritizing the needs of the Maldivian people.

President Muizzu expressed gratitude for India’s support, including the Rs 30 billion (USD 360 million) assistance and the currency swap agreement.
