In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is in charge of the BJP’s campaign in the state, announced plans to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC). He accused the current Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, of supporting infiltrators for political gain. Chouhan emphasized the BJP’s commitment to protecting ‘Roti, Mati aur Beti’ (bread, soil, and daughters) and highlighted concerns about demographic changes due to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

BJP’s Election Manifesto: ‘Paanch Prana’

The BJP has released its election manifesto, ‘Paanch Prana,’ focusing on youth and women. Key promises include the Yuva Sathi scheme, offering Rs 2,000 for exam preparation, and the Gogo Didi Yojana, providing Rs 2,100 monthly to women. The manifesto also promises 5 lakh jobs in 5 years, housing for all, and financial aid for gas cylinders.

Jharkhand is set to hold elections for its 81-member legislative assembly by December 2024. The current government’s term ends in January 2025, with the Election Commission yet to announce the schedule. In the 2020 elections, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, BJP 25, and Congress 16.
