Assam Artist Pradip Kumar Ghosh Creates Eco-Friendly Durga Idol from Plastic Caps
In Dhubri, Assam, artist Pradip Kumar Ghosh is set to reveal a unique Goddess Durga idol made from over 8,000 discarded plastic bottle caps during the Navratri festival. Standing five feet tall, this idol symbolizes sustainability and aims to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Ghosh, known for his eco-friendly creations for over a decade, has previously used materials like sugarcane waste and cycle tubes. This year’s idol, to be displayed at Charmain Road’s Durga Puja Pandal, highlights the urgent issue of plastic pollution. “This year’s idol carries a message about environmental change. Art should not only be beautiful but also meaningful,” Ghosh stated.
As a school teacher, Ghosh crafts these idols to promote sustainability and spark conversations on art and environmental responsibility. He believes that creating items from waste can help reduce pollution.
