Karti Chidambaram Urges Tamil Nadu to Honor Tennis Legend Ramanathan Krishnan

Chennai, Tamil Nadu – Congress MP and Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, Karti Chidambaram, has written to the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, requesting that tennis player Ramanathan Krishnan be honored for his significant contributions to Indian tennis.

Achievements of Ramanathan Krishnan

In his letter dated October 4, Chidambaram highlighted Krishnan’s remarkable achievements. Krishnan is the only Indian to have reached the semi-finals in the singles category of any Grand Slam title. He holds an unbroken record of 50 wins in the Davis Cup and has won six All India Championship titles. He was a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 1960 and 1961 and reached as high as World No. 3 in Potter’s amateur rankings. Krishnan became the National Champion at just 16 years old in 1953.

Commendation for Tamil Nadu Government

Chidambaram also praised the Tamil Nadu Government for naming and inaugurating the ‘Vijay Amritraj Pavilion’ at the SDAT Chennai Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam, calling it a fitting tribute to Amritraj’s contributions to sports.

Chidambaram expressed his hope that the Tamil Nadu Government would suitably honor Ramanathan Krishnan, who is a source of pride for the state.

Udhayanidhi Stalin -: Udhayanidhi Stalin is the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He is also the son of the current Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin.
