On Friday morning, restoration work began at the site where a goods train derailed on the Delhi-Mumbai route in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred on Thursday night, involving three coaches of a train traveling from Rajkot, Gujarat, to Bakaniya, near Bhopal.

Details of the Incident

DRM Rajneesh Kumar confirmed the derailment, stating, “Three coaches of the train have derailed. One coach has been lifted, the second one has a little problem and the third one has a minor issue, but that too will be lifted soon.” He assured that no trains are being canceled, although some may experience delays. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the derailment.

Improvement in Derailment Statistics

According to Central Railway, the average number of train derailments has significantly decreased. From 2004 to 2014, there were approximately 445 derailments annually, averaging 1.2 per day. In contrast, the 2023-24 period has seen a reduction to 89 derailments, averaging 0.24 per day.
