Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Global and Local Issues

Concerns Over Israel-Iran Conflict

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. He criticized the role of imperialism in escalating tensions in West Asia, highlighting the unconditional support of the US and NATO allies for Israel’s actions in Palestine. CM Vijayan urged Malayalis in conflict zones to follow safety advisories from the Ministry of External Affairs and NORKA Roots. He condemned Israel’s aggressive stance despite global calls for peace and a UN resolution for de-escalation.

Wayanad Landslide Disaster and Aid

CM Vijayan also addressed the aftermath of the Wayanad landslide disaster, which caused significant damage and loss of life. He expressed disappointment over the lack of substantial aid from the central government. The state requested an emergency relief fund of Rs 291 crore, of which Rs 145.6 crore had been previously sanctioned. However, this was part of routine procedures and not specific disaster-related aid. The Kerala Cabinet decided to urge the central government again for the necessary assistance.

Impact of Wayanad Landslides

The landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, affected several villages in Wayanad district, including Punjirimattom, Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Vellarimala, resulting in hundreds of casualties.
