A new case of the Congo virus has been detected in Quetta, Pakistan. The patient, a 32-year-old from Qila Saifullah, is being treated at Fatima Jinnah Hospital’s isolation ward. This marks the 13th case of the Congo virus reported in Pakistan this year.

Earlier, an 18-year-old patient diagnosed with the Congo virus passed away in Peshawar. The patient was taken to Khyber Teaching Hospital on May 17 after showing symptoms like high fever, body aches, and vomiting. No other cases have been identified among the patient’s contacts, including medical workers and family members.

The Congo virus is caused by the tick-borne Nairovirus, which is carried by animals such as cattle, goats, sheep, and hares. It is transferred to humans through tick bites or contact with infected blood or tissues during and after slaughter.
