Supreme Court Grants Interim Protection to Malayalam Actor Siddique in Rape Case

The Supreme Court of India has granted interim protection from arrest to Malayalam actor Siddique. This decision was made by a bench of justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, who set conditions for Siddique to join the investigation.

The court’s decision came after Siddique’s anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Kerala High Court. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Siddique, argued that the complaint was lodged eight years after the alleged incident in 2014.

The Kerala Police had issued a lookout notice for Siddique, suspecting he may have fled the state. The case is being investigated by a Special Investigation Team, and Siddique has denied the allegations.

The Malayalam film industry has been rocked by a series of sexual abuse allegations, leading to the resignation of Siddique from his position as general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The entire 17-member executive committee of AMMA also resigned following these allegations.

The surge in allegations followed the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread harassment and exploitation in the industry. The report noted that the Malayalam film industry is controlled by a small group of male producers, directors, and actors.
