Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Central Government for Ignoring West Bengal Flood Relief

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized the BJP-led Central government for neglecting the state during the recent flood crisis. She claimed that Bengal is the only state not to receive flood relief funds.

Flood Situation in West Bengal

Banerjee explained that the lack of dredging in Farakka for the past 20 years has worsened the flood situation. She mentioned that South Bengal was severely affected due to the release of over 5 lakh cusecs of water from the DVC, impacting areas like Bardhaman, Birbhum, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, and Hooghly. Additionally, the release of 6 lakh cusecs of water from Nepal’s Koshi river has now affected North Bengal.

Appeal to the Prime Minister

In response to a reporter’s question, Banerjee stated that she had written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the flood situation but received no direct response. She emphasized that Bengal has not received any flood relief funds, as seen in the budget.

Earlier, Banerjee wrote a letter to PM Modi, highlighting that the floods had affected five million people and caused significant damage to crops, public infrastructure, homes, and livestock. She urged the central government to release emergency funds to support recovery efforts and help the affected population.
