Jay Shah and Roger Binny Inaugurate New National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru
Former cricketer VVS Laxman praised the efforts of BCCI secretary Jay Shah in making the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) a reality. The NCA, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, was inaugurated by Shah and BCCI president Roger Binny and is expected to be fully operational by early 2025.
Laxman highlighted Shah’s dedication, saying, “One person I would definitely want to single out is Jay because I have seen and I have been part of various meetings when he came here, interacted with the L&T (construction) team.” He added that Shah ensured the project met its timelines and deadlines.
Laxman also noted that the new NCA will benefit both current and future generations of cricketers. “Since the time I joined the NCA in December 2021, all the cricketers have come here, not only for rehab. Obviously, there is a misconception that the cricketers come only for rehab. But they come to the NCA to upskill, get ready for the challenges during the various series they are going to participate in,” he said.
On Sunday, the BCCI held its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru, where members appreciated the efforts of the office bearers regarding the new NCA campus. A 17-minute tribute video to Shah was also screened, highlighting his contributions to Indian cricket.
The new Centre of Excellence spans over 40 acres and includes three cricket grounds and 86 pitches, both indoor and outdoor. Ground A, the main ground, features an 85-yard boundary with 13 Mumbai red soil pitches, advanced floodlighting, and state-of-the-art broadcasting facilities. Grounds B and C serve as practice grounds with 75-yard boundaries, featuring 11 Mandya soil pitches and 9 Black Cotton soil pitches from Kalahandi, Odisha.
