Walkathon in Srinagar Promotes Heart Health on World Heart Day

A special walkathon was held in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, from Dal Lake to Lal Chowk to celebrate World Heart Day. The event was organized by Ujala Cygnus Specialty Hospital to raise awareness about heart diseases, especially among younger people.

Importance of Heart Health

Dr. Parvaiz, the organizer, emphasized the growing number of heart disease cases due to unhealthy lifestyles and conditions like diabetes and hypertension. He said, “Previously, we believed that heart attacks only affected older individuals, but now we see them at younger ages as well.”

He also stressed the importance of knowing what to do in case of a heart attack, urging people to rush to the hospital immediately.

Support from CRPF

Yashwant Rajput, the second-in-command of CRPF’s 160 Battalion, highlighted the significance of the event for raising heart health awareness. He said, “The health of the heart is very important for us. This walkathon will awaken people to the need for heart health awareness.”

Educational Efforts

Dr. Sahood, an interventional cardiologist at Ujala Cygnus, spoke about the need for public education on heart diseases. He mentioned that learning CPR can save lives, sharing a story about a patient who needed 45 minutes of CPR.

Community Involvement

Shiraz Malik from Chinar Valley Youth Trust praised the initiative, noting that her NGO works to keep the youth fit through sports and health camps. She said, “We have organized more than 23 health camps in the last month. The message is that we should keep ourselves fit on Heart Day; if our heart is fine, then everything else is fine.”
