Zafar Iqbal, a gold medalist at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and captain of the 1982 Asian Games silver-winning team, also shared his thoughts. He noted that hockey had a massive following during his era, with events like the Nehru Gold Cup and Asian Games drawing large crowds. Zafar mentioned that Germany is a tough team, and he is confident that Indian fans will support their team to victory.

Upcoming Hockey Events

Last year, Chennai hosted the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy, while Ranchi welcomed the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy and the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier. This November, Rajgir in Bihar will host the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. Harbinder praised Hockey India’s efforts to host high-profile matches across the country, allowing more people to experience live hockey and helping players stay sharp for international tournaments.

Zafar encouraged fans to attend the matches, highlighting that India is now one of the best teams in the world with top-notch facilities. He invited hockey enthusiasts to come in large numbers to support the team.
