Bengaluru Court Orders FIR Against Nirmala Sitharaman Over Extortion Allegations
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 29: A Bengaluru court has ordered the filing of an FIR against Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others following allegations of extortion. Adarsh Iyer of Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP) claimed that officials misused their power to make companies pay large sums of money.
Iyer stated that the accused include the finance minister, officials from the Directorate of Enforcement in Delhi, BJP office bearers, former state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, and current BJP state chief BY Vijayendra. He mentioned that the Supreme Court had previously ordered the State Bank of India to reveal data on electoral bonds, leading to media reports of extortion and corruption.
“We filed a complaint stating that officials misused their power to extort money from companies. After five months, we received this judgement, and we are happy,” Iyer said. The court has ordered an investigation under CrPC Section 153.
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh called the court’s order a serious development, stating that the responsibility lies with the union finance minister and the prime minister. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also called for Sitharaman’s resignation and questioned when the Karnataka BJP would protest against her.
Earlier, a Bengaluru court ordered the Tilak Nagar police station to register an FIR against Sitharaman and others for extortion through electoral bonds, following a petition by Adarsh Iyer.
