Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Announces Rs 1 Crore for Families of Five Corona Warriors

The Delhi government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 crore to the families of five Corona warriors who died during the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister’s office on Saturday.

Beneficiaries

The families of the following individuals will receive the payment:

  • Pharmacist Sanjay Manchanda
  • Junior Assistant in Maulana Azad Medical College Ravi Kumar Singh
  • Sanitation Worker Virendra Kumar
  • Delhi Police Officer Bhawani Chandra
  • Primary Teacher Mohammed Yassen

All five individuals passed away while performing their duties during the pandemic.

Chief Minister’s Statement

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi stated that the financial compensation might not replace the loss to families but would help them live with dignity. She said, “The Corona Warriors in Delhi protected humanity and society during the pandemic and sacrificed their lives without thinking about themselves. The Delhi Government honours their spirit. Though the financial assistance cannot replace the loss, it will help the families live with dignity.”

Roles During the Pandemic

Sanjay Manchanda was deployed as a pharmacist at a patient care facility and visited containment zones with ASHA workers. Ravi Kumar Singh was a junior assistant at Maulana Azad Medical College. Virendra Kumar was in charge of sanitation at a hunger relief centre. Bhawani Chandra was on duty at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. Mohammad Yaseen was responsible for ration distribution.

Support for Families

Reaffirming the support for the families of the deceased, Atishi said, “The government will always support the families of these Corona Warriors. This scheme gives their families the confidence that the government and society stand with them.”

She added, “The COVID-19 pandemic was a serious crisis for everyone. It created fear in people, but our Corona Warriors took risks to save Delhi. Thousands of Corona Warriors, like doctors, medical staff, support staff, and sanitation workers, worked day and night to fight the pandemic. Many of them lost their lives in service.”

Delhi Chief Minister -: The Chief Minister is the head of the government in Delhi, similar to a principal in a school but for the whole city. Atishi is the current Chief Minister.

Rs 1 Crore -: Rs 1 Crore is a large amount of money in India, equal to 10 million rupees. It is given to help the families financially.

Pharmacist -: A Pharmacist is a person who prepares and gives out medicines to people who are sick.

Junior Assistant -: A Junior Assistant is someone who helps with office work, like filing papers and answering phones.

Sanitation Worker -: A Sanitation Worker is a person who helps keep our surroundings clean by collecting garbage and cleaning streets.

Delhi Police Officer -: A Delhi Police Officer is someone who helps keep people safe and makes sure everyone follows the law in Delhi.

Primary Teacher -: A Primary Teacher is a teacher who teaches young children in the first few grades of school.

Dignity -: Dignity means being respected and valued. The financial aid helps the families live with respect even after losing their loved ones.
