Punjab Government Imposes Section 144 in Rawalpindi Ahead of PTI Rally

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 in Rawalpindi district for two days, just before the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) public gathering at Liaquat Bagh. This was reported by ARY News.

According to the notification, the district administration has banned all types of gatherings, rallies, protests, and weapon displays on September 28 and 29. Section 144 is a legal provision used to restrict public assemblies for a limited period.

Similar restrictions have also been imposed in Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal districts.

Despite the ban, PTI called on supporters to gather at Liaquat Bagh. Omar Ayub, the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, posted on X urging supporters to come out in great numbers at 2 PM.

Earlier, PTI had moved the deputy commissioner’s office to seek permission for the rally but later withdrew the plea. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench questioned the withdrawal, to which the PTI lawyer responded that the plea was delayed by the deputy commissioner.
