Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed happiness as four villages—Jakhol, Soopi, Harshil, and Gunji—were honored with the Best Tourism Village Award on World Tourism Day. He called it a matter of great pride for ‘Devbhoomi’ Uttarakhand.

Commitment to Tourism

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s strong commitment to promoting tourism. He mentioned that the Home Stay Scheme is proving to be very beneficial in this regard. The state is also promoting adventure tourism and developing new tourist destinations, which is helping generate employment.

Achievements and Infrastructure

Dhami highlighted that unemployment has decreased by 4.4% in the state. Uttarakhand has also ranked first in the Sustainable Development Goals by NITI Aayog. The state has implemented strict anti-cheating laws, resulting in transparent recruitment for over seventeen thousand posts.

Efforts are underway to implement the Uniform Civil Code. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of tourism in strengthening the state’s economy. He mentioned that expanding road and air connectivity will boost tourism and benefit the economy. With the Central Government’s cooperation, air connectivity is being strengthened, and the dream of rail in the hills is becoming a reality.

Tourism and Culture

Dhami noted that Uttarakhand’s rich culture and heritage make it a special place on the tourism map. The state’s diverse folk culture, handicrafts, natural beauty, music, and dances attract tourists. The Char Dhams have been a center of faith for centuries, contributing significantly to the economy.

The Chief Minister appealed to the people to participate in spreading the importance of World Tourism Day and maintaining the tradition of welcoming and hospitality to tourists. He emphasized that tourism is the basis of both development and employment in the state.
