Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to Investigate Land Purchase Violations

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Friday that the state will investigate violations of land purchase rules. Currently, any person can buy up to 250 square meters of land outside municipal areas without permission. However, it has been found that some people are exploiting this rule by purchasing land under different family names.

Addressing reporters in Dehradun, CM Dhami stated that the government will reclaim such lands and take strict action against those who have misused the provisions. He also mentioned that the 2017 changes to land purchase rules, such as abolishing the maximum limit of 12.5 acres and authorizing district officials for permissions, have not been positive and may be reviewed or abolished.

Dhami assured that these steps are aimed at preserving the original form of Uttarakhand and will not affect investments that create employment in sectors like tourism, education, industry, and trade. The government is working on a comprehensive land law that aligns with Uttarakhand’s geographical conditions, to be introduced in the next budget session.

Earlier this year, the Uttarakhand government imposed an interim ban on outsiders purchasing land for agriculture and horticulture in the state.
