Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP Over Rising Militancy in Jammu
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 27: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government for the increase in militancy in the Jammu region since 2014. Abdullah, who is contesting from Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies, claimed that militancy has sharply risen in the last three years.
He stated, “The situation in Jammu today, the militancy in Jammu today, our brave soldiers are being targeted today–the BJP should answer that. They should inform why militancy spread in Jammu after 2014 and why the graph for militancy went up suddenly in the last 3 years…This is their failure. They should accept it and apologise to people.”
Abdullah also responded to BJP’s accusations against the ‘Gandhis’, ‘Muftis’, and ‘Abdullahs’ families, holding them responsible for the militancy. He pointed out the contradiction in BJP’s statements about Pakistan’s role in the unrest.
Jammu and Kashmir are currently voting for its 90-member assembly in three phases. The first two phases took place on September 18 and 25, with the final phase on October 1. The counting of votes will be held on October 8. This election is the first since the abrogation of Article 370, with several political parties and independents contesting. The National Conference and Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance.
