Left Parties in India to Hold Protests on October 7 for Gaza Ceasefire

The Left parties in India, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, All India Forward Bloc, and Revolutionary Socialist Party, have announced plans to hold demonstrations and meetings on October 7. They accuse Israel of conducting a ‘genocidal war’ in Gaza and demand an immediate ceasefire.

According to a press release, October 7 marks one year since Israel’s war in Gaza began. The Left parties claim that Israel’s attacks have resulted in the deaths of nearly 42,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, with thousands more buried under rubble. The medical journal The Lancet estimates the death toll could be above 85,000, including both direct and indirect deaths.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has termed Israeli actions as leading to possible genocide and called for a ceasefire, but Israel has not engaged in meaningful talks. The Left parties also accuse Israel of escalating the conflict into Lebanon and attacking Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The demonstrations aim to demand an immediate ceasefire, urge the Indian government to halt arms exports to Israel, and support a two-state solution for Palestine.
