Former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji Released from Prison
On Thursday, former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji walked out of Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to a cash-for-jobs scam.
Background
Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on June 14 last year and has been in judicial custody since then. The case is connected to his tenure as Transport Minister during the AIADMK government from 2011 to 2015.
Previous Bail Petitions
Earlier, the Madras High Court and Chennai Sessions Court had dismissed multiple bail petitions filed by Balaji. The Madras High Court, on February 28, dismissed his bail plea, and a local court had also dismissed his petition on September 20 last year.

Balaji joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in December 2018 and became the electricity minister after the party came to power in May 2021.
