Supreme Court Reserves Order on Byju’s Insolvency Case

The Supreme Court of India has reserved its order on a plea challenging the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal’s (NCLAT) decision to halt insolvency proceedings against Byju’s. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, has instructed the Insolvency Resolution Professional to maintain the status quo and not hold any meetings with the committee of creditors until the top court makes a decision.

The court stated, “Judgement reserved,” and added that the interim resolution professional should maintain the status quo until the judgement is pronounced. The plea was filed by Glas Trust Company LLC, challenging the NCLAT order. Previously, NCLAT had allowed a settlement between Byju’s Raveendran and the BCCI regarding unpaid dues of Rs 158 crore. The Supreme Court has questioned whether NCLAT had thoroughly considered the matter and indicated that it might send the issue back to NCLAT for a fresh hearing.
