Arvind Kejriwal Criticizes BJP in Delhi Assembly After Release from Jail

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal addressed the Delhi Legislative Assembly for the first time since his resignation. Kejriwal launched a strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kejriwal was jailed in connection with the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam but was granted bail on September 13. Following his release, he resigned from his Chief Minister post. During his speech, Kejriwal said, “My colleagues in the opposition must be sad to see Manish Sisodia and me here. I always say PM Modi is very powerful and has a lot of resources but Modi is not God but the God who is there is with us.”

He thanked the Supreme Court for granting him bail and assured that justice still exists in India. Kejriwal accused the BJP of ruining Delhi’s condition while he was in jail. He mentioned that Delhi University’s roads had deteriorated and requested the current Chief Minister to repair them.

Kejriwal also criticized the BJP for defaming AAP to gain votes. He said, “You have the central government, you could’ve made 5000 Mohalla clinics, Manish Sisodia made 700 schools, you could’ve made 7000 schools instead you are trying to stop our work. People will only vote on doing work not stopping it.”

He highlighted the termination of bus marshals, stopping elderly pensions, and halting pilgrimage tours started by AAP. Kejriwal assured that AAP is still strong despite the challenges and claimed that BJP would break if only two people were put in jail.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal on September 13, stating that prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, 2024, in connection with a money laundering probe related to the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. He was later arrested by the CBI on June 26, 2024, while in ED custody.
