Man Suspected of Killing Woman in Bengaluru Found Dead in Odisha
Mukti Ranjan Roy, the man suspected of killing a woman in Bengaluru and storing her dismembered body in a refrigerator, was found dead in Odisha’s Bhadrak district. A suicide note admitting to the crime was discovered beside his body.
Investigation Details
The Bengaluru police had traveled to Odisha to investigate the murder. Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhadrak, Odisha, Varun Guntupalli, stated, “A team of Bangalore Police had come here to probe the recent murder of a woman there. The team said that the prime accused belonged to Bhadrak. Before the team could apprehend the accused, Mukti Ranjan Roy died by suicide by hanging himself on Wednesday morning.”
After the post-mortem, Roy’s body was handed over to his family. SP Guntupalli added, “A bag and a laptop have been found at the place of the scene.” A case of unnatural death has been registered at a police station.
Mother’s Statement
Roy’s mother, Kunjalata Ray, alleged that her son took this extreme step due to fear. She claimed, “He said he had fallen prey to that woman’s trap. She kept asking for money from him. I asked him why doesn’t flee from there (Bengaluru) by resigning from his job. He did this due to fear as the woman kept demanding money from him.”
Victim’s Details
The dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman named Mahalakshmi was found stuffed in the refrigerator of the house she was living in at Vinayaka Nagar in Vyalikaval, Bengaluru, on September 21. Mahalakshmi had been living alone in the rented house for the last five months. The body parts were found highly decomposed, raising the suspicion that the murder could have taken place a fortnight ago.
