Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad, Telangana, is making a significant impact by providing free complex care and organ transplantation services. This initiative has transformed the lives of many patients, including Ravi Sundar, 45, from Nalgonda, and Narender, 46, from Vallampatla, Maddur, Siddipet.

Ravi Sundar was admitted with severe liver failure due to a viral infection, while Narender suffered from chronic liver disease. The hospital’s doctors performed cadaver liver transplants, with Ravi recovering and being discharged, and Narender still in recovery. Additionally, skin from donors was preserved for burn patients.

Dr. Rakesh Sahay, Superintendent of OGH, shared that in the past month, the hospital facilitated two in-house organ donations and is in the process of another. These donations enabled two cadaver liver transplants, four kidney transplants, four corneal donations, and skin donations for burn patients.

Dr. Sahay emphasized that organ transplant surgeries, which typically cost 25 to 35 lakhs in private hospitals, are provided free of charge at OGH under the Telangana government’s Aarogyasri scheme. The hospital also offers lifelong free immunosuppression drugs to patients.
