Gujarat Giants Aim for PKL Season 11 Title with Star Raider Guman Singh

The Gujarat Giants, two-time runners-up in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), are gearing up for Season 11 with high hopes of winning their first title. The team has consistently reached the Playoffs in four out of six seasons they have participated in. Last season, they were eliminated by the Haryana Steelers in the Eliminator round.

New Coach and New Players

Under the guidance of head coach Ram Mehar Singh, who previously led the Patna Pirates to victory in Season 5, the Giants are looking to go all the way this time. The team was very active in the Season 11 Player Auction, signing 15 new players to strengthen their squad.

Strong Raiding Unit

The Giants’ raiding unit is one of their biggest strengths. Guman Singh, acquired for Rs 1.97 crore, is expected to lead the attack. He was ninth on the leaderboard for most raid points in Season 10 and has accumulated 400 raid points in the PKL. He will be supported by Parteek Dahiya, who has 308 raid points, and Rakesh, who aims to improve on his 379 raid points from last season. Monu, with 109 raid points, also adds depth to the attack.

Defensive Concerns

While their attack is strong, the Giants’ defense has some weaknesses. Sombir and Neeraj Kumar are the only well-established defenders, with 194 and 172 tackle points respectively. To bolster their defense, the Giants signed Nitesh, Manuj, Mohit, Harsh Lad, and Iranian Vahid Rezaeimehr, but these players lack significant PKL experience.

All-Round Talents

The Giants will also rely on their all-rounders, Mohammad Nabibakhsh and Balaji D, to contribute in both attack and defense. Nabibakhsh has 79 tackle points, while Balaji D has 42. Neeraj Kumar and Monu, with 114 tackle points, will also be crucial in strengthening the defense.

Challenges Ahead

The main challenge for the Giants will be overcoming their lack of experience. This was a problem in Season 10, where they lost several close games. Guman Singh, despite his talent, is not the most experienced main raider, and his consistency will be key to the team’s success.

Ultimately, how the Gujarat Giants manage their inexperience will determine their fate in Season 11.
