Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets Telangana Corporators and Discusses Assam Accord

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed a delegation of corporators from Telangana’s Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati. The meeting was part of a study tour to learn about urban governance in Assam.

During the meeting, Sarma shared Guwahati’s experiences in managing legacy waste, improving civic amenities, and solid waste management. The corporators expressed their satisfaction, stating they gained valuable insights from Guwahati Municipal Corporation’s practices.

Additionally, Sarma conveyed his goodwill to the approximately 60 corporators, who represented BJP, Congress, and BRS, and sent his greetings to the people of Telangana through them.

Earlier, Sarma chaired a meeting with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) to discuss the recommendations of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Committee regarding the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. He announced that the second phase of discussions with AASU would take place on October 25 and clarified that Clause 6 would not be implemented in Barak Valley and Sixth Schedule areas without local consent.

Clause 6 of the Assam Accord mandates the protection, preservation, and promotion of the cultural, social, and linguistic identity of the Assamese people through appropriate constitutional, legislative, and administrative safeguards.
