Big Fire in Karachi Shopping Centre Destroys Vehicles
A large fire broke out in the basement of Noman Centre in Karachi’s Saddar area on Tuesday, destroying nine vehicles. The fire started due to a short circuit in the parking area on Preedy Street. Rescue 1122 official Hassaan Khan said they were alerted about the fire at around 10:15 am. The flames spread quickly because shopkeepers stored used clothes in the basement, and the building lacked fire extinguishers.
At least 10 fire tenders were used in a three-hour operation to control the blaze. Firefighters faced challenges due to poor ventilation and ongoing protests on MA Jinnah Road, which made it hard to access water from a hydrant. Despite these difficulties, the fire was controlled by 1:24 pm. Two firefighters had breathing difficulties during the operation.
The fire destroyed seven motorcycles, one car, and a rickshaw, with several other vehicles partially damaged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. This incident follows another fire in Clifton Nazarat, raising concerns about fire safety in Karachi’s commercial areas.
