Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Announces Progress

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced on Wednesday that Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are working together on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). This project is very big and aims to provide drinking and irrigation water to 13 districts in eastern Rajasthan and the Malwa and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh.

Sharma stated, “Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh ERCP is a very big project which both states are working together to complete. Today we discussed with Union Water Power Minister CR Paatil. All our problems have been solved. In the coming time, our MoA is also going to happen… which will be in the interest of both the states and according to what both the states have done together, the work will be good in the coming time.”

The ERCP project, announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017-18, aims to provide drinking and industrial water to 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan, Malwa, and Chambal regions of Madhya Pradesh. It will also support irrigation for a total of 5.6 lakh hectares.

The Modified PKC-ERCP (Modified Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-ERCP) Link Project is an inter-state river linking project. The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is already in progress. Based on the outcome of the DPR, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will be finalized among the States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and the Union Government. This MoA will cover the scope of the work, sharing of water, exchange of water, sharing of costs and benefits, implementation mechanism, and arrangements for management and control of water in the Chambal basin.
