Congress Leaders Supriya Shrinate and Rahul Gandhi Speak on Jammu and Kashmir Elections

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate expressed confidence in the party’s ability to win the Jammu and Kashmir election. She noted that the strong voter turnout indicates a lack of trust in the BJP and a desire for change. Shrinate criticized the previous government for mismanagement and unemployment in the region over the last decade.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated that the opposition will pressurize the Centre to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. Speaking at a public rally in Sopore, he highlighted that it was the first time in history a state was downgraded to a Union Territory, calling it an injustice to the people.

The Congress party, in alliance with the National Conference, is competing for 32 seats, while the NC is vying for 51 of the 90 Assembly seats. The elections are being held in three phases. The first phase recorded a voter turnout of 61.13% across 24 constituencies. Voting for the second phase is currently underway, and the third phase will take place on October 1. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
