Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Praises High Voter Turnout in Jammu and Kashmir Elections

As the second phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir began, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized that the high voter turnout is a sign of the region’s positive response to the Central government’s decisions. He mentioned that the first phase saw over 60% voter participation, a significant improvement from past single-digit turnouts due to terrorist threats.

Shekhawat stated, “This polling is proof that the public of Jammu and Kashmir is standing with the decisions of the Central government, including the decision to abrogate Article 370. People have appreciated these changes with a positive approach.”

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale expressed confidence that the BJP will win the elections, crediting PM Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah for reducing terrorism in the region. Athawale said, “It is a very good sign that people are coming out to vote in large numbers. BJP will emerge victorious as terrorism has been reduced in J&K.”

BJP leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM Nirmal Singh also expressed optimism about the voter turnout in the second phase, calling the NC-Congress alliance “opportunistic” and rejected by the people.

Voting for the second phase began at 7 am on Wednesday, with over 25 lakh eligible voters deciding the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies. The final phase of polls will be held on October 1, and the votes will be counted on October 8.
