Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 25: Preparations are in full swing for the second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for September 25. This phase will cover 26 Assembly seats.

Security Measures

Security has been tightened with CCTV surveillance to ensure fair polling. At the pink polling stations in the Kalakote-Sundarbani assembly constituency, booth level officer Gurubachan Singh mentioned, “The cameras are installed. For specially-abled voters, we have wheelchairs. We have created a selfie point to encourage voting.”

Polling Parties and EVMs

In Poonch district, polling parties have left for their respective polling booths with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Similarly, in Srinagar, polling parties have collected their EVMs and dispatched them to their stations. Khalid Hussain Malik, the returning officer of Zadibal Constituency, highlighted that the Election Commission of India has focused on the welfare of polling parties, providing various facilities. He noted, “There are around 143 polling stations in Zadibal Constituency, making it the largest assembly constituency in Srinagar district.”

Key Constituencies and Candidates

The second phase will cover 26 assembly seats in six districts, including prominent constituencies like Budgam, Ganderbal, and Zadibal. Notable candidates include former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, BJP chief Ravinder Raina, and Congress president Tariq Hamid Karra.

First Phase and Upcoming Phases

The first phase of voting was completed on September 18 with a 61.13% voter turnout. The second and third phases are scheduled for September 25 and October 1, respectively. Vote counting will take place on October 8, along with Haryana.
