UAE’s National Media Office Hosts Forum to Promote Responsible Media

The National Media Office (NMO) in Abu Dhabi organized the ‘Media and National Responsibility Forum’ to foster collaboration among UAE media, including traditional and social media platforms. The forum’s goal is to promote responsible communication that protects the nation’s interests and combats disinformation.

The event was attended by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the NMO and UAE Media Council; Dr. Mohammed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cyber Security Council; Khalid Mubarak Al Madhani, Head of the Federal Prosecution for Combatting Rumors and Cybercrimes; and various media professionals, journalists, and social media influencers.

Keynote Speech Highlights

In his keynote speech, Sheikh Abdulla Al Hamed emphasized the commitment of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to uphold the values of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He stressed the importance of preserving authentic Emirati values on social media and delivering objective, fact-based content.

Sheikh Abdulla outlined the traits of the Emirati personality on social media, as defined by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. These traits include ethics, modesty, civility, confidence, humility, reason, and positive engagement with different cultures and ideas.

Anti-Trolling Campaign

Sheikh Abdulla also discussed the ‘Block Without Comment’ campaign, aimed at combating online trolls and suspicious campaigns. The campaign received positive responses and significantly reduced offensive content while increasing positive content.

Forum Discussions

Discussions at the forum focused on the role of media in supporting national identity, spreading community awareness, and protecting society from fake accounts. The forum also addressed the challenges of maintaining credibility and transparency in the media amid rapid technological changes.
