UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Visits National Children’s Hospital in Washington DC
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited the National Children’s Hospital in Washington DC to learn about its pioneering work in pediatric surgery and healthcare. The UAE has been a longtime supporter of the hospital, contributing significantly to its development.
Support and Innovations
The Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation was established with a USD 150 million gift from the UAE. Additionally, the Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus received a further USD 30 million commitment. During his visit, Sheikh Mohamed was briefed on the hospital’s advanced facilities, including the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Command Center, which uses artificial intelligence to monitor patients and provide telemedicine consultations globally.
Groundbreaking Innovations
Sheikh Mohamed learned about a miniature pacemaker designed for babies and infants, developed at the Sheikh Zayed Institute. This device, first seen as a prototype in 2019, has now been used in over 40 pediatric patients, including five newborns, thanks to the UAE’s investment.
Meeting Patients
During his tour, Sheikh Mohamed met with Emirati children receiving treatment, speaking with them and their families. He wished the young patients a speedy recovery and emphasized the UAE’s commitment to their health. The children and their families expressed their gratitude for the care they are receiving.
