Tejaswi Surya Urges Karnataka CM to Withdraw Urdu Requirement for Anganwadi Teachers

BJP MP Tejaswi Surya has written a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, asking for the immediate withdrawal of an order that mandates Urdu for Anganwadi teacher posts in Mudigere and Chikkamagaluru districts. Surya shared a copy of the letter on X, criticizing the move as an attempt by Congress to impose Urdu and undermine Kannada culture.

In his letter, Surya condemned the Karnataka government’s decision, stating, “It is condemnable that the child and women’s welfare ministry has ordered Urdu eligibility for the Anganwadi jobs. This is happening because of Congress’s appeasement politics. Congress in Karnataka forgot that Kannada is supreme in Karnataka. It will be a big blow to the existence of Kannada in Karnataka. That’s why I request you to suspend concerned officers who ordered such blunders and take strict action against those who conspire against Kannada.”

Former BJP MP Nalinkumar Kateel also criticized the move, calling it “unacceptable” and an attempt to restrict job opportunities. He posted on X, “This is yet another attempt by the Congress to appease the Muslim community and restrict job opportunities. It’s a dangerous political strategy.”

The Karnataka BJP echoed these sentiments, stating on X, “Kannada, a language with rich history and heritage, doesn’t need Urdu to survive! Why impose Urdu on our people, Siddaramaiah? This is Karnataka/Bharath, not Pakistan! @INCIndia’s appeasement policies are sidelining Kannadigas pride and culture. We won’t let Kannada be disrespected. We’ll fight this injustice!”

The controversy began with an official order from the Department of Women and Child Welfare, which requires applicants in Mudigere and Chikkamagaluru districts to be proficient in Urdu.
