Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Promises Justice for Assaulted Woman and Army Officer
Khordha (Odisha) [India], September 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan met with a woman who was allegedly assaulted along with her fiancé, an Army officer, at the Bharatpur police station. The meeting took place at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.
The woman shared that Chief Minister Majhi assured her of justice and a judicial inquiry. She expressed concerns about possible threats and was promised future protection if needed. Majhi also assured her of zero tolerance for any wrongdoing towards women in the state.
The woman’s father thanked the Odisha government for initiating a judicial inquiry, which is expected to be completed within 60 days. He appreciated the assurance of security for their restaurant and the safety of women in the state.
The incident occurred on September 15 when the Army Major and the woman went to the Bharatpur police station to complain about harassment. Instead of addressing their concerns, the police allegedly tortured them and sent the woman to jail without justification. In response, the state government suspended five police officials and ordered a Crime Branch probe.
