The National Commission for Women (NCW) has directed Karnataka police to expedite the arrest of those involved in the gruesome murder of a woman in Bengaluru. The woman’s dismembered body was found in a refrigerator in her home in Vyalikaval.

NCW’s Statement

In a post on X, the NCW stated, “The Commission has directed the state police to expedite the arrest of all involved and ensure a thorough, time-bound investigation. A detailed report is expected within 3 days.”

Police Investigation

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced that the prime suspect has been identified and efforts are underway to arrest him. He mentioned that the suspect is an outsider but did not provide further details to avoid aiding the accused.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara added that the police have gathered significant information and clues. He mentioned that the suspect is reportedly from West Bengal but emphasized the need for more evidence to confirm his role.

Government’s Response

When questioned about measures to enhance women’s safety, Minister Parameshwara highlighted the installation of CCTV cameras in areas frequented by women and other precautions taken by the government.

Incident Details

The dismembered body of Mahalakshmi, who had been living alone in a rented house in Vinayaka Nagar, Vyalikaval, was discovered on September 21. The body parts were highly decomposed, suggesting the murder occurred about two weeks prior.

Political Reactions

The BJP criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government, claiming that law and order have collapsed under its rule. The BJP’s Karnataka unit posted on X, alleging that the Congress’s appeasement policies have compromised safety in the state.
