Northeast Students Celebrate Culture at Delhi Festival
Thousands of students from northeastern states studying in Delhi NCR celebrated their culture at the Northeast Students’ Festival. The event, held at Talkatora Stadium, was organized by My Home India and featured the theme ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’.
Special Guests
The festival was graced by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju emphasized the progress of North-East India, stating, “North-East India has changed and we have moved on…North-East is no more neglected and isolated part of India!”
Performances and Activities
The day-long event included cultural dance and musical performances by students and invited artists from all northeastern states. Notable performances included Jessie Lyngdoh from Meghalaya, Alobo Naga from Nagaland, and Ruatpuii from Mizoram. A remarkable Mallakhamb display by visually impaired students from Padma Shri Uday Deshpande’s academy in Mumbai was a key attraction.
Organizers and Mission
My Home India, led by social worker and politician Sunil Deodhar, organized the festival to support northeastern students in different parts of the country. Deodhar called for strengthening the bond of oneness across India, stressing the need for unity.

My Home India -: This is an organization that helps people from different parts of India feel welcome and connected.
Cultural performances -: These are shows where people sing, dance, and act to share their traditions and customs.
Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram -: These are states in the northeastern part of India, each with its own unique culture and traditions.
Mallakhamb -: This is a traditional Indian sport where people perform yoga and gymnastics on a pole or rope.
Visually impaired students -: These are students who have difficulty seeing or cannot see at all.
