Omar Abdullah Leads Shikara Rally in Dal Lake for Jammu and Kashmir Elections
Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference (NC) and former Chief Minister, led a Shikara rally in the iconic Dal Lake, Srinagar, to support NC candidate Tanvir Sadiq for the upcoming Assembly Elections. The rally, which started from Nehru Park Ghat No. 7, saw participation from MP Aga Ruhullah and included a ride on a Jet Ski.
Abdullah highlighted the beauty of the region and the issues faced by its people. He noted a decline in voter turnout compared to 2014, citing a 20% decrease in areas like Noorabad. He expressed confidence in the NC-Congress alliance forming the government, dismissing surveys suggesting a hung assembly.
MP Aga Ruhullah emphasized the importance of democratic participation and voting against decisions like the abrogation of Article 370. He reported positive feedback from the first phase of polling in South Kashmir and expected better results in Central Kashmir.
Tanvir Sadiq, the NC candidate from Zadibal, expressed confidence in the alliance’s success and noted high enthusiasm among the people. The first phase of voting, completed on September 18, saw a 61.13% turnout across 24 constituencies. The second and third phases are scheduled for September 25 and October 5, with vote counting on October 8.
