Sanjay Manjrekar Urges India to Play Kuldeep Yadav in Kanpur Test Against Bangladesh

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has advised the Indian cricket team to include spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. Kuldeep, who has taken 53 wickets in 12 Tests since his debut in 2017, last played a Test against England in March, where he performed impressively.

Manjrekar believes that Kuldeep should have been included in the first Test in Chennai, as the pitch would have supported spinners after the initial days. He suggested that India should play two pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, along with three spinners in the Kanpur Test starting on September 27.

In the first Test, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field. India struggled initially, with the top-order collapsing to 34/3. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant formed a crucial partnership, followed by a significant 199-run stand between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, helping India reach 376 runs. Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud was the standout bowler, taking five wickets.

Bangladesh’s first innings saw them being bowled out for 149 runs, with Bumrah and Akash Deep leading the Indian bowling attack. In their second innings, India declared at 287/4, setting Bangladesh a target of 515 runs. Despite a strong start, Bangladesh was bowled out for 228 runs, with Ashwin and Jadeja taking the majority of the wickets. Ashwin was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
