Australia Aims to Eliminate Cervical Cancer: PM Anthony Albanese at Quad Leaders’ Event
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Saturday that Australia is on track to become the first country in the world to eliminate cervical cancer. Speaking at the Quad Leaders’ Cancer Moonshot event, Albanese revealed that Australia is expanding its funding commitment towards the elimination partnership of cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific region.
Albanese recalled the first Quad Leaders summit, where US President Biden agreed to work together to improve COVID vaccine access, resulting in over 400 million doses reaching communities in the Indo-Pacific. He emphasized that the Quad Cancer Moonshot initiative, a signature policy of President Biden, aims to change and save lives similarly.
The Cancer Moonshot is a White House initiative to lead the fight against cancer, fostering new collaborations and progress across the oncology community. It has spurred significant action from federal agencies, private companies, healthcare providers, and more, with over 95 new programs and collaborations announced to date.
On World Cancer Day, February 4, the U.S. Mission in Australia launched an initiative to highlight the shared efforts of the U.S.-Australia alliance in cancer research, prevention, and treatment.
