Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal. They highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to strengthening democracy and promoting economic growth.

The proposal, recommended by a High-Level Committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, aims to synchronize Lok Sabha, assembly, urban body, and panchayat elections within 100 days. The Committee suggested a two-step approach for implementation:

  • First, simultaneous elections for the House of the People and State Legislative Assemblies.
  • Second, synchronizing Municipalities and Panchayats elections with the House of the People and State Legislative Assemblies within 100 days.

The Committee also recommended using a single electoral roll and Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for all three tiers of Government.
