Doctors in Delhi Save Man’s Life by Removing Bullet Lodged for 16 Years
Doctors at a private hospital in Delhi have saved Shailender Singh, a 45-year-old man from Kanpur, by removing a bullet that had been lodged in his left lung for 16 years. Singh was shot in 2008, and the bullet was dangerously close to his heart, causing life-threatening complications.
Over the years, Singh consulted many specialists in Kanpur, but surgery was deemed too risky due to the bullet’s location near vital structures. He remained symptom-free for years but recently experienced severe chest pain and coughing up blood.
A team of doctors led by Dr. Shaiwal Khandelwal, Associate Director of Thoracic Surgery at Max Hospital, Saket, examined Singh and decided to perform emergency surgery. They successfully removed the bullet and the damaged part of the lung.
Dr. Khandelwal explained that bullets in dangerous locations are usually left untreated if they show no symptoms. However, in Singh’s case, the bullet caused life-threatening bleeding, necessitating the surgery. Singh’s condition improved significantly after the procedure, and he is now recovering well at home.
