98 Indian Pilgrims Pass Away During Haj Pilgrimage

Ninety-eight Indian pilgrims, out of 1.75 lakh who went for the Haj pilgrimage this year, have died due to natural causes, chronic illnesses, and old age, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared that the number of deaths this year is lower compared to last year’s 187. He mentioned that six Indians died on the day of Arafat, and four died due to accidents.

Support from Indian Haj Mission

The Indian Haj Mission in Jeddah provides extensive support, including medical missions, hospitals, and ambulances. They assist families and handle incidents promptly.

Healthcare Services for Pilgrims

Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra released a document titled ‘Medical Care Arrangements for Haj Pilgrimage,’ detailing the healthcare services available. The document was created in collaboration with the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Chandra noted that this is the second year the Union Health Ministry is responsible for healthcare during Haj. Nearly two lakh outpatient visits have been conducted, and a live portal provides real-time data on medical care for pilgrims.

Chandra emphasized India’s commitment to assisting its citizens globally, citing past efforts in Ukraine and Kuwait.
