800 Railway Workers Fix Tracks After Train Derailment in Gonda, Says Aditya Kumar

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 19: Aditya Kumar, the Divisional Railway Manager of North-Eastern Railway, announced that around 800 railway workers are working to restore the tracks after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Gonda. He mentioned that the restoration work is expected to be completed by the evening, and trains are currently running on diverted routes.

Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Railway, confirmed that the derailed coaches have been removed and that train operations on the up-line will resume soon. He added that three people have died in the accident, and more than 800 workers and many machines are involved in the restoration work.

Saumya Mathur, the General Manager of North Eastern Railways, also stated that the restoration work is ongoing and that the up-line will be restored within a few hours. She emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure the entire section is restored by the evening.

According to the Railways, several special trains running between Ayodhya Dham and Mankapur on July 19, 2024, have been cancelled due to the derailment. The accident resulted in the death of three people and injuries to around 30 others. The derailment occurred near Gonda station, affecting 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train. Medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway rushed to the site immediately after the incident. A high-level inquiry, in addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, has been ordered to investigate the accident.
