6th International Festival of Jordanian Dates Opens in Amman
The 6th International Festival of Jordanian Dates has commenced in Amman, Jordan, under the patronage of King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein. The event highlights the strong ties between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as noted by Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, Engineer Khaled Al-Hanifat. He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his support.
The festival is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan, the General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, and the Jordan Dates Association. It celebrates the historical significance of date palm cultivation in Jordan, with roots tracing back to 3,000 BCE in Aqaba. The sector has attracted significant investment, creating around 10,000 jobs, with 40% held by women.
Hamad Abdullah Al Matrooshi and Abdelouahhab Zaid were among the notable attendees. Zaid praised the festival’s achievements, reflecting the cooperation between Jordan and the UAE. Eng. Anwar Haddad acknowledged the festival’s success and the growth of date palm cultivation in Jordan.
A documentary showcased the Khalifa International Award’s contributions to sustainable development. The festival concluded with the recognition of its winners.
