57 People Die from Illicit Liquor in Tamil Nadu
In Tamil Nadu, 57 people have tragically died after consuming illicit liquor. The district administration updated the information on Monday. Currently, 156 people are being treated in various government hospitals across the state.
Hospitals and Treatment
At the Kallakurichi Government Medical College hospital, 110 people are receiving treatment. Twelve people are admitted in Puducherry, 20 in Salem, and four in Viluppuram government hospitals. Seven people, including five men and two women, have been discharged after treatment.
Deaths Reported
So far, 32 people have died at the Government Kallakurichi Medical College and Hospital, 18 at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem, four at the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital, and three at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Puducherry.
Support from Chief Minister MK Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the state government will cover the education and hostel expenses of children who lost one or both parents in the tragedy. Children who lost both parents will receive Rs 5000 monthly assistance until they turn 18, and Rs 5 lakh will be deposited as a fixed deposit in their names. Children who lost one parent will receive Rs 3 lakh as a fixed deposit. These children will also be given priority in all government welfare schemes.
Investigation and Arrests
The CB-CID of Tamil Nadu police, led by SP Shantharam, has started investigating the tragedy. According to the Kallakurichi Collector, seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
